SH 288 Toll Lanes Construction Begins
HOUSTON, TX—November 9, 2016—Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the SH 288 Toll Lanes developer, Blueridge Transportation Group, along with Almeda-Genoa Constructors, lead contractor on the upcoming construction project to improve the functionality of SH 288, are hosting an invitation-only groundbreaking ceremony for community leaders on November 15th, 2016.
This project, which includes the Harris County section of SH 288, will add toll lanes and expansive new interchanges to a 10.3 mile stretch of roadway, from US 59 in the north to the Harris County/Brazoria County line at Clear Creek. The interchanges and 18 new direct connector/ramp bridges will improve connectivity to and from Beltway 8, IH 610 South Loop, and the Texas Medical Center. Construction is expected to last until mid-2019.
The groundbreaking marks the beginning of significant outreach and communications efforts on the project with the community. “This groundbreaking is just the start of major improvements to SH 288,” said Ralph Gleffe, Project Manager with Almeda-Genoa Constructors. “We are committed to keeping the community as informed as possible throughout the duration of this project.”
Outreach efforts include the development of Drive288.com, a project-specific website designed to educate and inform both internal and external stakeholders. The project team is also using email updates, a texting platform, and extensive social media activity to spread awareness about the project and information about upcoming lane closures or traffic alerts.
“With these processes in place, we’re confident the SH 288 Toll Lanes Expansion project will run smoothly, from groundbreaking to completion.”
